Equine Breeding Farm Careers
Equine Breeding Farm CareersEquine Breeding Farm CareersHorse farms may employ a wide variety of breeding industry professionals on a full or part-time basis. Here are some popular breeding related career options for those interested in working on a horse farm Horse Farm Manager Horse farm managers are responsible for all aspects of farm operation including supervising other staff members and ensuring that all horses on the property are receiving proper care. They also make decisions regarding what service providers (veterinarians, farriers, transportation services) the farm will do business with. The horse farm manager provides direction to ensure that the farm runs smoothly. Broodmare Manager Broodmare managers oversee the care and management of pregnant mares, young foals, and weanlings. They must have an excellent knowledge of reproductive physiology, foaling, and neonatal foal care. They routinely handle teaser stallions to evaluate which mares are coming into heat and k eep careful notes on each mares reproductive cycle to ensure that the mare is bred at the optimal time to ensure conception. They are required to be on call during the foaling season (January to June) to attend foalings and assist with any difficult births. Broodmare managers also work closely with many other breeding industry professionals such as veterinarians, foaling attendants, and grooms. Stallion Manager Stallion managers oversee the care and management of breeding stallions. They are responsible for live titelseite breeding or collection, managing stallion grooms, and overseeing the stallion office staff. They also oversee the arrival and preparation of mares that have come to be bred. They are busiest during the breeding season (January to June) and may have to come back after hours to supervise evening breeding sessions, as some stallions at busy farms breed up to four times per day. Yearling Manager Yearling managers oversee the care of weanlings and yearlings. T hey are responsible for the health of young horses as they go through an important growth phase, and must be well versed in corrective shoeing methods and nutritional requirements. Yearling managers also may be involved in supervising sales preparation, particularly if they are employed in the Thoroughbred industry. Stallion Booking Secretary Stallion booking secretaries are responsible for scheduling breeding appointments for multiple stallions at the farm. They must coordinate with the stallion manager to ensure that stallions are available and healthy so that they can fulfill breeding appointments. Stallion booking secretaries must have excellent organizational and computer skills. Since this is an office based location, there is minimal (if any) direct contact with the horses. Foaling Attendant Foaling attendants watch broodmares for signs of impending birth and assist them with the foaling process. They must be prepared to deal with problem births and foals requiring im mediate medical attention. They also must keep detailed records on each mare so that each individuals quirks and signs of foaling are noted. It is a seasonal position that usually runs from January to June (many foaling attendants work as grooms or night watchmen during the offseason). Foaling attendants work night shifts since that is the period when the majority of mares prefer to foal. Groom Grooms are responsible for all aspects of direct care for the horses to which they are assigned. Grooms are involved with feeding, cleaning stalls, grooming, turnout, wrapping legs, and holding horses for the farrier and veterinarian. It is a position that involves a great deal of physical labor, so those pursuing this career path must be able to meet the demands of the job. Equine Veterinarian Equine veterinarians are not frequently full-time employees of a single farm, though large breeding operations may have a vet on staff. The veterinarian is responsible for all aspects of healt hcare, with a particular emphasis on the reproductive care of the broodmares and the neonatal care of the foals. The vet must be on call to deal with any health emergencies as they arise. They tend to be particularly busy during foaling season.

This conversation stopper should be a starter
This conversation stopper should be a starterThis conversation stopper should be a starterNobody does it that way. This line stops a conversation before it begins. If no one does it that way, it means it cant be done.If no one does it that way, it means well get ostracized or rejected. If no one does it that way, it means we dont know what results await us.If no one does it that way, it means were not going to do it that way.So we stick to whats worked in the past. We launch the saatkorn marketing campaign and make the seventeenth sequel to theFast and Furiousseries. We pay lip service to doing things differently, but our commitment to originality carries the same sincerity as a glib politician pledging campaign reform. When push comes to shove, we conform, rather than flout.Resisting conformity causes us emotional distress - literally. Aneurological studyshowed that non-conformity activates the amygdala and produces what the authors describe as a pain of independence. To avoid this pain , we become the by-products of other peoples behaviors. In our personal lives, everything from our clothes, favorite movies, religious beliefs, and the books we choose to read are influenced by others. Businesses chase the latest fad or trend and do things simply because their competitors are doing them.Inone representative study, participants were quizzed about a documentary they watched How many policemen were there when the woman got arrested? What welches the color of her dress? A few days after they took the test, they returned to the lab to get re-tested. This time, they were shown the responses of other participants, some of which had been intentionally doctored to be false.Roughly seventy percent of the time, the participants changed their answers and went along with the wrong answers given by the rest of the group. Even after the experimenters told the participants that the group answers were wrong, the fake social proof was so powerful that half of the participants stuck w ith the wrong answers when they were re-tested.Imitation is easy. It provides the path of least resistance. It can even deliver some results in the short term. But its a recipe for long-term disaster. As Warren Buffett put it, The five most dangerous words in business are Everybody else is doing it. Over time, imitat makes a trend obsolete. This monkey see, monkey do approach creates a race to the center. The companies who prevail are those that decide to buck the trend and explore the edges.Consider Patagonias 2011 advertising campaign. The company asked,Instead of doing what everyone does and asking people to buy from us, what if we asked themnotto buy from us? The result of this thought experiment wasa full-page ad in theNew York Timesthat ran on Black Friday. The ad featured a Patagonia jacket with the headline, Dont buy this jacket. With this ad, Patagonia became the only retailer in the country asking people to buy less on Black Friday. The ad worked in part because it support ed Patagonias mission of reducing consumerism and lightening environmental impact. But it also ended up helping the companys bottom line by attracting customers who shared the same mindset.Dick Fosbury used the same method to revolutionize the Olympic high jump. When Fosbury was training to be a high jumper, athletes would use a technique called the straddle method, where they would jump face down over the bar. But Fosbury, a 21-year-old from the middle of nowhere in Oregon, prided himself on doing things differently. He asked himself,What if I did the opposite of what everyone else is doing?Instead of jumping face down to the bar, what if I jumped backwards? His approach at first invited ridicule. A newspaper called him The Worlds Laziest High Jumper. To his coaches, the Fosbury flopas it came to be knownwas an outrageous and dangerous departure from well-established norms. They tried to convince Fosbury to drop it.Ignoring the naysayers, he kept gradually improving his technique an d earned himself a spot on the 1968 Olympic team. The laughs eventually turned into cheers as Fosbury proved his critics wrong and took home the gold medal at the Olympics - by doing the exact opposite of the best practice.Fosbury knew a secret missed by many others The low-hanging fruit has already been picked. You cant beat a stronger competitor by copying them. But youcanbeat them by doing what theyre not doing. The next time youre tempted to follow the herd, ask yourself, What if I did what no one else is doing? women in leadership
women in leadership Female leaders at S&P auf der ganzen welt share perspectives that fuel their success. Relationship building. Inspiration. Support network. Facing failure. The long view. These are essential elements of the entrepreneurial spirit, and are often used by successful people to set ideas in motion and to grow and developboth personally and professionally. Here, five S&P Global female leaders discuss their journeys to success, lessons theyve learned along the way, and how they embrace their entrepreneurial spirit.Do you want to work for a company that values diversity and inclusion? Click here to follow S&P Global and see all of their current openings. One of the biggest challenges in almost all industries today is achieving gender parity. Gender diversity provides huge benefits in the workplace. pWhile some industries have made significant advancements in gender diversity, some industries lag further behind... and the constr uction industry is well-known for being in the latter category. If someone says, construction workers, youll likely picture a group of men in yellow hard hats analyzing an architects plans or laying bricks on top of a scaffold. And men at work signs only help to reinforce this image.pThis stereotype is rooted in reality. When was the last time you actually spotted a woman on a construction site? Or hired a female plumber or carpenter? Your answer is most likely never. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statisticsreports that only 3.4% of the total of 8.3 mio construction employees are women.pBut the construction industry has a lot more to offer than steel-toed boots and hard hats, and it needs women to help advance the industry in this era of rapid change. Here are 5 reasons why women joining the workforce or looking to make a pivot should consider a career in construction.h21. Fuel Innovation/h2pNot only is diversity the socially and morally right thing to do, but it is also actually an excellent business strategy. pResearch presented in the Harvard Business Reviewshows that diverse teams develop more innovative ideas. This is further supported by a study conducted by Gallupon the performance of gender-diverse teams versus single-gender teams, which found that the difference in backgrounds and perspectives led to better business performance and problem-solving. h22. Capitalize on Demand/h2pThe construction industry is currently experiencing a labor shortage. The industry itself is booming and projected to be one of the fastest-growing industries, with total spending projected to exceed $1.45 trillion in 2023/a. However, most construction companies are unable to meet the rising demand. pAccording to the Associated General Contractors of America/a, more than 80% of contractors are experiencing difficulties filling hourly craft positions that represent the bulk of the construction workforce.pAnd demand isnt limited to individual contributor roles. Given the industry b oom, there are a number of open stable and high-paying roles (any project managers out there?) waiting for the right candidateh23. Leadership Opportunities/h2pAccording to the Bureau of Labor Statistics/a, women compose only 7.7% of the total 1 million managerial positions in construction.br/pBut given the highly collaborative nature of construction work, more women in leadership roles would help drive innovation and enhance productivity.Furthermore, as a woman in construction in a leadership position, youd have the unique opportunity to drive change for the industry and make it a more attractive option for other women.h24. High-Income Potential/h2pSalaries for many skilled positions in construction are on the rise, making a construction career a prime choice for women looking for a high-paying job,pThe 2018 Construction Craft Salary Surveyconducted by the National Center for Construction Education and Research revealed that salaries for many skilled craft areas are increasing. Proj ect managers and project supervisors topped the list at $92,523 and $88,355, respectively. The next set of highest-paying jobs include those of combo welders ($71,067), instrumentation technicians ($70,080), pipe welders ($69,222), power line workers ($68,262) and industrial electricians ($67,269). Of the 32 categories of workers in the survey, 19 positions earned an average salary of $60,000 or higher.h25. Sense of accomplishment/h2p The construction industry can give employees a unique sense of achievement. Yes, the job is stressful and the work can be demanding, but nothing beats the feeling of being able to build something from the ground up. pHow many professionals in other industries can point at a school, a hospital, or a skyscraper and say I helped build that?pThe construction industry has a long way to go in combating gender bias and supporting women in the workforce, but given the current demand for workers, theres no better time to pick up a sledgehammer (figurative or li teral) and smash the gender stereotypes plaguing the construction industry.

While you should certainly explain your interest in the job or company, and explain why you think it might be an ideal position for you, do not let this dominate the conversation. Focus on learning from the interviewee rather than telling him or her why you deserve a job.Take notesConsider taking a limited amount of notes in order to keep track of all the information you obtain. Make sure that your note-taking does not interrupt communication between the two of you. Immediately after the interview, sketch a brief outline of the topics covered and your overall impression of the industry/job/company discussed. Follow upWrite a thank you note to all the people you interview. Send them any follow-up questions you may have. Continue to keep in touch with your contacts after the interviews. This will increase the likelihood that they will offer you assistance with your job search in the future.
